Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) organised the ‘Agro Fair 2066’ from 26-30 January 2010 in Butwal. The fair is held every two years.
During the fair, GIZ/INCLUDE supported the chamber in conducting two interaction programmes addressing different issues of the ginger and dairy sub-sectors. Dairy and ginger are among the sub-sectors identified by GIZ/INCLUDE that have a high income and employment generating potential contributing to a socially inclusive local and economic development.
Over 100 people engaged in the dairy sector participated in the workshop on ‘Milk Production-Present Situation in Rupandehi District and Increment Strategy’. Mr. Dinanath Timilsina, President of District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union gave a presentation on ‘Situation, Opportunity and Challenges of Milk Production, Marketing in Rupandehi District’ and Dr. Bimal Kumar Nirmal, Chief of National Animal Breeding Centre, Pokhara on ‘Milk Production Increment Strategy’. The presentations were followed by discussions with the participants.
Two papers were also presented during the workshop on ‘Status of Ginger Production, Problem, Prospect and Export Challenges in Nepal’ which had 40 participants from the western region. Mr. Krishna G.C., President District Ginger Cooperative Union, Palpa spoke about ‘Situation of Ginger Production, Opportunity and Challenges in Nepal’ and Mr. Ganesh Chandra Dhakal, Chief of Regional Plant Quarantine Office talked about ‘Export Situation of Ginger at Present, Prospect and Challenges in Nepal’.
